John Krapfl, 78

John Patrick Krapfl passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, at the age of 78, surrounded by his wife, children, and brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Monika Krapfl; children, Patrick Krapfl and Kathleen Moen; and five grandchildren, Michal, John, Jacqueline, Jordyn and Jameson.

John was born Jan. 13, 1940 in St. Louis, Mo., to Patrick and Lorraine Krapfl. He was the oldest of five children: John, Mike, Larry, Patricia and Steve. He met his wife, Monika, in Germany while serving his country in the United States Army. He returned to the U.S. to graduate from Southern Illinois University. He then relocated to Coeur d’Alene in 1972 and opened the very first NY Stock Exchange office in the area, Edward Jones.

John raised his family in Coeur d’Alene and instilled his passion for the outdoors through skiing, camping, hunting, fishing and golfing. He was active in local charities such as United Way, Children’s Village, Boy Scouts of America, the local Humane Society, the Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity.

John will be remembered as a man who loved his family with all his heart. He adored his community and gave back to it in as many ways as he could. Anyone who had the good fortune to know him knew how large his heart was. He loved to laugh and play jokes and would playfully tease those around him. He found a lot of joy in spending time with his friends, and his spirit was always uplifted when he was around his grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at the Avondale Golf Club in Hayden, Idaho. We ask that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to either of the charities listed here, which were close to John’s heart: Children’s Village, 1350 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d’Alene ID 83815, or Kootenai County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1005, Hayden, ID 83835.

He will be loved and remembered always. Yates Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements and you may visit John’s online memorial and leave condolences at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
