5A IEL-leading Lake City powers past Lewiston

COEUR d’ALENE — Reilley Chapman had 12 digs as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lewiston Bengals 25-8, 25-21, 25-15 in an 5A Inland Empire League match on Tuesday.

“We started the game really, really well and served aggresively,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “We caught them out of system a little bit, and defensively, I thought we controlled the night. Our back row defense was really locked in and didn’t let anything touch the ground in that first set.”

Ashley Kaufman had 12 kills, Klaire Mitchell 20 assists and five aces, Tanai Jenkins three blocks and Nellie Reese three aces for Lake City (12-1, 4-0 5A IEL), which competes in the Rocky Mountain Invitational starting on Friday at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian. The Timberwolves will face Borah, Caldwell and Capital in pool play on Friday.

“It will be a good measuring stick for us as far as where we stand against other teams from the southern part of the state,” Summers said.

Lewiston is 0-4 in league.

Lakeland

COEUR d’ALENE — Lauren Phillips had 16 assists and seven kills as the Vikings swept the Hawks 25-10, 25-22, 25-20 in nonleague play.

Taylin Rowley added 16 assists for Coeur d’Alene (10-4), Kelly Horning 12 kills, Sarah Wilkey seven digs, Liliana Hare four blocks.

“I thought we served a lot tougher tonight; we were able to get Lakeland out of their offense,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “And we blocked real well.”

Katy Ryan had 18 kills, Abbey Neff 19 assists for Lakeland (13-7). Daphne Carroll added seven kills and five aces, Jenny Wirtz five blocks, Olivia Cooper 16 digs, Summer Powell 11 digs.

“Coeur d’Alene is tough but our girls battled the second and third sets,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “I am extremely proud with the improvements our girls made after the first set. Katy Ryan had a great game and Olivia Cooper dig some really tough hits.”

On Thursday, Lakeland is home vs. University, and Coeur d’Alene hosts Post Falls in the annual “Volleyball 4 the Cure” match for breast cancer awareness.

COEUR d’ALENE — Despite 18 assists from Mackenzie Simkins, the host Panthers lost to the Spartans 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 in Intermountain League play at Holy Family Catholic School.

Megan MacKinney had eight kills and two aces, Taylor Peterson two aces for Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-5, 0-4 IML), which travels to Timberlake on Thursday.

BONNERS FERRY — McKeeley Tonkin had 22 assists and four kills as the visiting Tigers remained undefeated in the Intermountain League with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-13 sweep of the Badgers.

Kenzie Dean added 16 kills and three aces for Timberlake (14-4, 4-0 IML), and Brooke Jessen had eight kills and four blocks.

Timberlake plays host to Coeur d’Alene Charter on Thursday.

KELLOGG — Kaci Haeg had six kills for the Lumberjacks in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 nonleague win over the Wildcats at Andrews Gymnasium.

Sami Badgett had 14 assists and four aces, Dakotah Wilks six digs and Jayden Martin four aces for St. Maries (11-8), which hosts Priest River on Thursday.

WALLACE — Glory Olson had eight kills and five aces for the Knights in a 10-25, 25-17, 25-10, 25-20 North Star League win against the Miners at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Olson served 10 consecutive points for Lakeside in the third set.

“We played extremely well as a team and communicated really well,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “We were keeping balls alive and getting balls across when we were out of system. The momentum shifted in that second set, and we really never looked back. I was extremely pleased with the consistency we played with tonight.”

Alyssa SiJohn had 28 assists and Kamryn Hendrickx three blocks for Lakeside (4-5, 3-3 NSL), which faces Genesis Prep on Saturday at Post Falls Middle School.

HARRISON FLATS — The Warriors lost 25-7, 25-6, 25-7 in a North Star League match to the visiting Wampus Cats.

Kootenai (2-7, 1-4 NSL) hosts Wallace on Thursday.

Clark Fork (10-5, 4-0) travels to Mullan on Saturday.
