BOYS SOCCER

COEUR d’ALENE — With visiting Moscow packing in its defense, the Coeur d’Alene boys soccer team knew it wouldn’t have many scoring chances in Monday’s nonconference home match.

It took a while, but in the 71st minute, Viking sophomore Chris Swider sent a through ball ahead to Drake Prohaska, who tracked it down, outran two Bear defenders and beat the Moscow goalie to give the hosts a 1-0 victory.

“Moscow has an almost inpenatratable defensive alignment — they get a lot of players back there,” CHS coach Braden Ridgewell said. “But we won the ball in our half, had some good one-touch passes and a strong counterattack that Drake was able to convert.”

Ridgewell also credited goalkeeper Cooper Proctor, stating all four of his difficult saves kept the Vikings (7-2) in the game.

Coeur d’Alene hosts Lake City under the lights at 6 tonight in a key 5A Inland Empire League matchup.

First half — No scoring.

Second half — 1. Cd’A, Drake Prohaska (Chris Swider) 71:00.

VOLLEYBALL

POST FALLS — A trip to the Seattle area for a full weekend of volleyball may have left the fuel tank a bit low as the host Trojans lost 25-20, 25-12, 25-22 to Mead on Monday night.

“We’ve played a lot of volleyball in the last four days. We were a little tired, and Mead was ready to play,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said.

Maya Blake led the Trojans (9-8) with eight kills and seven digs. Tessa Sarff and Kayla Mayo had five kills each, with Mayo adding 12 assists.

Courtney Finney had 14 assists for Post Falls, which visits Coeur d’Alene at 7 p.m. Thursday for a match that features the Volleyball for the Cure fundraiser.
