POST FALLS — Greyden Lee and Ty Shaw scored two goals each for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 5-0 win over the Post Falls Trojans in 5A Inland Empire League play at Post Falls High on Tuesday.

Ashton Elwin had a goal and an assist in the first half for Lake City (7-0, 3-0 5A IEL), which hosts Sandpoint at the high school football field on Thursday at 6 p.m.

“We had longer periods of the possession, which is something we have been working on, and created a large number of quality scoring chances,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “Post Falls always plays us hard, but we defended well and were able to limit their chances on goal. I was pleased with the result, and particularly happy with the players that came off the bench when they were needed.”

Post Falls (2-6, 0-3) hosts St. George’s on Thursday.

“Other than the first two goals, I thought we played a little better than Lake City in the first half,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “We got down 3-0 in the second half, and it deflated us. We kept making errors, and it’s a lot to fight back from.”

COEUR d’ALENE — Gavin McLuskie had two goals and an assist as the Vikings beat the Bengals in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Coeur d’Alene High.

“We’re creating a lot of opportunities in the attacking end of the field,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell, whose team scored eight goals on 11 shots on goal. “It’s just a matter of being able to capatalize on the high-percentage chances, and today was a good day to put that into work.”

Lewiston is 1-2 in league.

“We really wanted to focus on connecting on passes and held the ball really well, which limited Lewiston’s chances,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg, whose team held the Bengals to three shots on goal. “Our back line played really well today and closed down the balls in their area and shut them down.”

Claire Romero also had a hat trick for Lake City (7-2, 3-0 5A IEL), which travels to Sandpoint on Thursday to play the Bulldogs under the lights at Memorial Field.

“I was very proud of the Post Falls program; they worked hard all the way through,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said.

The Trojans (3-6-1, 0-2-1) have been plagued by injuries all season.

“First, hats off to Lake City,” Post Falls coach Steven Mills. “I’m really impressed with the progress the girls are making. In the first half we moved the ball fairly well and made several deep runs into Lake City territory. There are a lot of positives to take away from that first half. In the second half you could tell we hit a wall. While we have got a lot of our players back on the field, it was pretty obvious they have lost a lot of their game-fit cardio in the weeks they have been rehabbing.”
