Lake City removes interim tag from head football coach Fulp

COEUR d’ALENE — He’s now Coach Fulp — no longer Interim Coach Fulp.

After four games, Lake City High officials have decided to remove the “interim” tag from first-year head football coach Brian Fulp.

“We planned on evaluating things halfway through the season — which is where we are today — and we feel Brian has met and in many areas exceeded our expectations,” Lake City athletic director Jim Winger said. “Our freshman numbers are up, the JV team is doing well and the varsity has improved every week. Brian has also worked extremely hard with Junior Tackle and has been actively involved with that organization.”

Fulp, a Priest River High grad and a coach in the Timberwolves football program the past two seasons, took over a program that had had three straight losing seasons. Under Fulp, Lake City lost its first three games this season before beating Lakeland last Friday.

“He has done an outstanding job and we see no reason to look elsewhere and have more change and disruption,” Winger said. “Considering what Brian has done so far, we certainly don’t need a third head coach in three years. The program is heading in the right direction and we are very pleased to have Brian leading the program.”
