Idaho Conservation League dinner set

The Idaho Conservation League will host the third annual conservation lecture and dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Hayden Lake Country Club in honor of the late Scott Reed.

Reed, one of the league’s founders, is remembered as a champion of countless environmental causes, including the preservation of Tubbs Hill in Coeur d’Alene.

This year the Conservation League welcomes Rod Gramer as its guest speaker.

Gramer will talk about the challenges that conservationists in Idaho face today and reflect on the late Idaho Sen. Frank Church, who found ways to advance conservation in the state despite its conservative politics.

Gramer is president of Idaho Business for Education, a group of nearly 200 Idaho business leaders working to help transform the Idaho education system into one of the best in the country. He spent 38 years working as a reporter, newspaper editor and television news executive. Gramer is the author of two books: “Fighting the Odds: The Life of Senator Frank Church,” which he wrote with historian LeRoy Ashby, and a novel, “The Good Assassin.” He has published articles in numerous publications, including The New Republic, USA Today, Changes magazine, and newspapers throughout Idaho.

The evening includes a catered dinner and a no-host bar.
