Walk, then balk ends Indians' season
EUGENE, Ore. — Shertan Apostel drove in both Spokane runs, but Eugene rallied with two runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Emeralds swept the Indians 3-0 in the Northwest League championship series with a 3-2 win in front of 2,714 at PK Park on Tuesday.
Eugene loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game at 2-2 on when Andy Weber, scoring Jonathan Sierra to tie the game. With Nelson Velazquez batting, Eugene scored the winning run on a balk by Emmanuel Clase to win its second league title in the last three years. Spokane, making its first appearance in the championship series since 2010, was aiming for its first title since 2008.
Apostel had an RBI single in the second inning, then hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, finishing with three hits for Spokane.
