Four Kootenai County teens, most with lengthy criminal records, are accused of stealing golf carts from Avondale Golf Course in Hayden.

Marcus Smith, 18, of Hayden; Logan D. Hendren, 18, of Dalton Gardens; and two minor teens from Hayden were arrested and face charges of grand theft following an incident Monday night.

Deputies responded to the golf course around 11:45 after a homeowner reported hearing people yelling on the course and golf carts driving erratically on the greens.

A 17-year-old from Hayden was found running on the golf course, according to a report from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, and he was arrested.

The other suspects fled, but were arrested Tuesday night after Coeur d’Alene police officers reportedly saw a vehicle, believed to be related to the case, around 11:30. Deputies stopped the vehicle and arrested Smith.

After further investigation, deputies arrested Hendren and the 16-year-old.

Other charges related to damage to the golf carts and the golf course are expected to be added to the grand theft charges faced by all four teens.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Smith has been arrested seven times for drug charges, grand theft and probation violations. He was on probation when arrested for this incident.

Hendren has been arrested seven times for multiple theft and other charges.

The 16-year-old male has been arrested 12 times for various property crimes and probation violations.

The 17-year-old male had no criminal history.
