TAXES: Schools, ease up

| September 12, 2018 1:00 AM

Here we go again. Front-page news: “More students trigger tax levies in school districts.”

I was not surprised to read this as again emergency levies are unilaterally being imposed by our officials. When is this going to stop? As a senior, we are being taxed right out of our homes paying for the schools. With the amount of new residents they should be reducing the tax we pay for the schools. As a matter of fact, we should be receiving a refund! What kind of math are we using here?

As I stated before, seniors should be exempt from school taxes if we so choose. Exactly where is my $1,500+ a year going? That, folks, is just what we pay to the schools! Our taxes went up about $1,000 from 2016 to 2017 and now you’re taking more, but we have more residents? Something smells here! Accountability. Do the officials need to be explained in detail the meaning of that word. We’re getting screwed.
