Dorothy May Bloomer, 89

Dorothy May Bloomer, 89, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. She was born on a farm on March 27, 1929, in Rantoul, Kan., to Charles and Maude Bloomer. She also attended school there. She was preceded in death by late husbands, Paul C. Tice and David Jackson.

Dorothy attended and graduated college with a master’s degree at the University of California, in Davis, Calif., and went on to become a school teacher. She taught students from south Sacramento with learning disabilities. Her students adored her and did well in her classes. Most of the students would not have graduated without her care and teaching skills. She earned the approval of students, and faculty as well. Dorothy became teacher of the year for the State of California for two consecutive years. She loved teaching and her students.

In the late 1980s she retired from teaching when she and Paul moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to be closer to her family. She enjoyed her retirement, spending time reading (especially Sidney Sheldon books) and doing her genealogy. She loved designing and sewing men’s and women’s clothing. She designed her own patterns for the clothing, as well as for her cross-stitching and knitting. Her designs were exceptional, and she received many compliments and requests from many people for her to perform work for them.

Dorothy also loved music from the Glenn Miller era and loved to dance. She and Paul took lessons for a few years and were great at dancing. A few years after moving to Coeur d’Alene, Paul passed away. Later, she met David Jackson at a dance and they were married.

In the late 1990s Dorothy and David moved to Tucson, Ariz., where they enjoyed traveling to various locations in Europe, South America and the United States. After David passed, Dorothy became a care provider for lost souls. She did all she could to take care of all their needs until her own medical needs brought her back to Post Falls, Idaho, to be near her family. She was enjoyed and loved by all of her family. She loved sharing and caring for others. She definitely is one of God’s Special Angels.

Dorothy also had a loving pet cat companion named Bandit. She enjoyed spending many hours with him. He was a faithful and loving pet that brought her great joy.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Curtis and spouse, Diane; daughter, Cynthia (Billy); daughter, Rhonda (Steve); and grandchildren: Kim, Lisa, Carissa, Peter, Taj (Holly) and Shad (Jessica); great-grandchildren: Ashlee (Jesse), Alora, Joshua, Ryan and Jett; great-great grandson, Cash and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at Yates Funeral Homes, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with a viewing at 10 a.m. and services following at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’ Alene.
