Joanne P. Christianson, 91

Funeral services for Joanne P. Christianson, age 91, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814, with Pastor Kurt Wandrey officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be at Forest Cemetery.

Joanne died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, of congestive heart failure at Providence Hospital in Everett, Wash. Arrangements are provided by Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Online registry and condolences may be found at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com

Joanne was born March 8, 1927, in Austin, Texas, to Samuel and Vera Platt. In 1944 she graduated from Austin High School and in 1949, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of fine arts in drama. Afterwards she traveled to New York City, where she acted in Broadway theater. She also acted in summer stock theater in Cape Cod, Mass., and Ruidoso, N.M. (where she met her future husband, Perry Christianson, an Air Force pilot). They were married on Oct. 10, 1953, in Austin, Texas. She, along with Perry, raised three children (Cheryl, Rollin and Keith) while serving as a military wife and traveling all over the world. When her husband, Perry, retired from the Air Force, the family moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1977.

Her interests included traveling, gardening, cooking, baseball, reading and theater.

She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Texas Rangers Association, the University of Texas Alumni Association and Peace Lutheran Church.

Joanne is survived by sons, Rollin Christianson of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Keith Christianson of Everett; daughter, Cheryl Christianson of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren, Neil Christianson and Pete Christianson, both of Houston, Texas, and Brooke Link of Nampa, Idaho; and two great-grandchildren, Noah Christianson and Kendra Link. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel M. and Vera Platt of Austin, Texas and her husband, Perry Christianson of Coeur d’Alene.
