EVENT: Implication misleading

Judd Wilson, I read your article “Event Aims to Increase Voting; NonPartisan Questioned” dated Aug. 31, which focused on local activist Jessica Mahuron and the Civic Action Festival scheduled on Sept. 15. In my opinion, you sought to discredit Ms. Mahuron.

When Republican candidates did not respond to Jessica Mahuron’s invitation, you imply she never invited them. This is despite the fact she provided clear documentation to the contrary. The truth is probably closer to the reality that candidates are bombarded with email inquiries and requests the closer it gets to election time. This is true whether the candidate has a D or R after their name.

Since I am acquainted with Ms. Mahuron, it is my opinion that she possess integrity. She is honest and forthright. She easily admits when she makes a mistake and takes responsibility for her actions. If she states she contacted candidates in a bipartisan manner, then she did.

Nonetheless, if your contacting candidates again increased awareness and participation in the event, then that is a positive. I hope there is a large turnout for the event.

I appreciate Ms. Mahuron’s efforts to organize an event that promotes civic participation. There are many issues facing Idahoans and the Civic Action Festival provides an excellent opportunity to engage in learning more about them.
