Lakeland girls battle to 4A IEL draw

MOSCOW — Sammi Pennick scored in the 18th minute off an assist from Makayla Higbee as the Lakeland Hawks played to a 1-1 draw with the Moscow Bears in 4A Inland Empire League play at the Community Playfields on Thursday.
Moscow scored the equalizing goal in the 41st minute.
Alicia Edelblute had six saves for Lakeland (0-4-1, 0-1-1 4A IEL), which hosts Post Falls next Thursday at Sunrise Rotary Field in Rathdrum.

BONNERS FERRY — The Panthers continued to romp through the Intermoutain League, beating the Badgers.
“Some of our younger players got a lot of time tonight and rose to the occasion,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “They’ve learned a great deal from their peers on the team and it was enjoyable to see them put what we practice into play.”
Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-0 in league and overall) — which has outscored its league opponents 45-0 thus far — visits St. Maries on Tuesday.

RATHDRUM — Cole Daricek scored an unassisted goal in sixth minute and Cody Carvajal added another in the 76th minute for the Hawks in a 4A Inland Empire League loss to the Bears at Sunrise Rotary Field.
“We played solid the entire 80 minutes,” Lakeland coach Jeremiah Beckett said. “We just had a few mental breakdowns that cost us the game late. I thought we played really well and showed some fight. Moscow is a very fast team, and we played their speed very well, but those breakdowns cost us in the end.”
Lakeland (0-7, 0-2 4A IEL) travels to Stillwater Christian of Kalispell, Mont., on Saturday.
