Indians lose finale; open playoff series Wednesday

| September 4, 2018 1:41 AM

SPOKANE — Vancouver banged out 13 hits and piled up 7 runs, but the offensive barrage came one night too late as the Canadians beat Spokane 7-4 on Monday night before 5,813 at Avista Stadium.

The Indians (38-28, 22-16 second half) had clinched the second-half North Division title with wins in the first two games of the Vancouver series, making Monday’s game meaningless for playoff pairings.

Spokane took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as Troy Dixon and Hasuan Viera drove in runs, but Vancouver scored a pair in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings to win the game.

Isaias Quiroz added a two-run homer in the ninth for the Indians, who open a three-game playoff series with the Everett AquaSox starting on Wednesday. Game 1 will be in Everett at 7 p.m. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be played at Avista Stadium, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and, if necessary, at 1 p.m. Friday.
