More than a Pleasant View
It’s easy to focus on development north of Post Falls, as there’s plenty of new construction to talk about there. New homes in pristine-looking neighborhoods close to town are hot commodities, obviously, but it isn’t everybody’s idea of a comfortable haven.
Some just like to be a little more off the grid, and the area south of Post Falls can be a mountainside paradise for those looking for a little more space and privacy. In the Pleasant View and surrounding area, you can “rough it” out there, or you can build a massive dreamhouse set against expansive views of gorgeous mountainscapes.
Those views are pretty impressive, even seen by the roadsides of Riverview Drive and even more south on Carpenter Loop. Even the recent smoke lingering in the area can’t spoil the view.
As the name implies, the Riverview Drive area offers some stunning peeks at the Spokane River, and it’s as close to the central hub of Post Falls as many of the town’s northernmost neighborhoods. The offerings, however, are sparse, but they come with opportunities to create a stunning dream property.
One such recent listing is a property with more than 4.6 acres and 375 feet of Spokane River frontage. Plenty of trees and varied mountain and river views, a 1,900-square-foot existing home, and the option to subdivide the property are just a few enticing options here at a price tag just under $700,000.
Just nearby is a 2.37-acre property with private well, power and septic already on the property. It lacks the river frontage but it’s priced at $175,000.
Head deeper into the woods south on Carpenter Loop and even more options become available. Some are intriguing land options, all with plenty of private space to pretend you’re in the middle of nowhere. And others come with existing homes. Some of these houses are just spectacular, begging the question, “Which members of the Backstreet Boys are living on the edges of our fine North Idaho community?”
On the more affordable side, a recently updated 1,450-square-foot home with four bedrooms offers country living on a 5-acre wooded site for just under $300,000. It’s just a couple miles from I-90.
Onto the more “splurge” range of living, a recent listing at $800,000 gives you 10 acres with a four-bedroom four-bathroom, 3,900-square-foot custom log home overlooking the city and river. It’s east of Carpenter Loop on Summerfield Road. Keep heading east (and even a little closer back to Riverbend), and you’ll find a listing for a 5-plus acre spot with a four-bedroom, 3,200-sqauare-foot home with excellent views in nearly every direction. It’s at $650,000. Nearby, there’s an older home with its own unique country views listed just under $500,000.
Keep going east toward Coeur d’Alene out there, and you’ll find a listing for an almost 20,000-square-foot home priced over $3 million. OK, that might actually be a Backstreet Boy house.
