Lake City makes strides in loss to Lewis and Clark

| September 1, 2018 1:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Zane Lettau had touchdown runs of 2- and 4-yards for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 31-14 nonleague loss to the Lewis and Clark Tigers on Friday night at Lake City High.

“Overall, it was a better game than last week,” said Lake City coach Brian Fulp, whose team lost its opener to Madison 42-6 on Aug. 24. “Our execution was better and it was a better effort all-around. We had six different injuries and most of them battled back and got back in the game. We missed a couple of blocks and tackles, but overall it was an improvement over last week.”

Lake City (0-2) hosts Ferris next Friday.

It was the season opener for Lewis and Clark.

HARRISON FLATS — Cameron Garcia ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the visiting Wampus Cats took advantage of five Warriors turnovers for the one-sided victory in the North Star League opener for both teams.

“And both his long runs were on fourth down,” Kootenai coach Doug Napierala said. “We had him in the backfield ... poor tackling.”

Warriors quarterback Gage Maitland went down with a twisted ankle on the second series and didn’t return. Backup Jimmy Striker completed 11 of 20 passes for 130 yards, with two interceptions.

Kootenai (1-1) also lost three fumbles.

“Offensively, every time we got something going, we shot ourselves,” Napierala said. “But Clark Fork came to play; they executed well.”

Clark Fork is 1-1.

Kootenai is idle next week, then visits Wallace on Sept. 14.
