George Howard Palmer Jr.

George Howard Palmer Jr. was born Sept. 20, 1940, to George Howard Palmer Sr. and Helen (Lucky) Palmer in Springfield, Ill. George went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family and friends, on Sept. 18, 2018, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It was two days before his 78th birthday.

The Palmer family moved from Illinois to Montana, where George met and married Lola Levitt and together they had six children.

George was a great guitarist (his friends say he was a “legend” in his time), a trapper, and an avid outdoorsman. He was more at home in the woods than anywhere. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He also loved history, specifically Native American history, which he captured in detail on canvas, as he also loved to paint.

George was a man of many gifts and talents, too many to list on paper. However, one of his greatest gifts was the gift of storytelling. He could keep his 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren engaged for hours. Those stories will be told and retold for years to come and held in our hearts forever.

George was preceded in death by his parents and many special friends.

He is survived by his wife, Lola, of 60 years and his six children, Mirna Moses, Bryan (Kim) Palmer, Janelle (Scott) Goode, Margene (Jerome) Nobles, Kirk Palmer and Kevin (Rebecca) Palmer; his 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Art Palmer, Gary Palmer and Jim Palmer; sister, Sue Hofferber; and many very dear friends.

A memorial celebration will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2018, at Spokane Faith Center, 3330 W. Central Ave., Spokane, Wash.
