Vets Stand Down donates for scholarship

Organizers of the annual North Idaho Veterans Stand Down have donated $10,000 to the North Idaho College Foundation to establish a scholarship endowment at NIC to support veteran students in perpetuity.

“Education is important for veterans as they transition to civilian living,” said Eric Swanbeck, North Idaho Veterans Stand Down chair. “We are honored to partner with NIC to support scholarships for veterans.”

In the military, Stand Down refers to a necessary mental and physical break from combat. The North Idaho Veterans Stand Down is an annual event that provides an opportunity for veterans and their families to engage with veteran community resources and meet personally with VA health care representatives and potential employers. The next Stand Down will be held on the North Idaho College campus on May 11, 2019.

“We are very appreciative of Stand Down’s investment in veterans who are seeking to better their lives through education and training at North Idaho College,” said NIC President Rick MacLennan. “This scholarship will help students each and every year to dream big and achieve their highest potential.”
