Robert Ewald

1940 – 2018

Bob passed away peacefully at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho, after a long battle with many health problems. His soul is now at rest.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. on Jan. 19, 1940, to George and Elizabeth Jackson Ewald (both deceased). Bob has lived in Lamoni, Iowa; Independence, Mo.; Laconia, N.H.; Mesa, Ariz.; Bonita Springs, Fla., and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — where he lived out his final years. Bob married June Kapitanoff-Webb on June 20, 1959, and had two children.

Bob attended Columbus Boy Choir School in Pennsylvania as a youth. He attended Haddonfield High School (1957), West Nottingham Academy (1958), Graceland College (1960), Central Missouri State (1962), and obtained a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut (1966).

Bob was a speech and hearing pathologist for the Independence School System in Missouri; the Laconia, New Hampshire State School and Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Arizona. After Mesa, he came to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he managed a small boat charter business for two summers. After that, he became a flight attendant for America West Airlines for 16 years and traveled extensively throughout the United States. Everyone who knew him liked his quiet manner and kindness. He enjoyed all of his vocations.

One of Bob’s passions was the love of music and singing. He sang at Graceland College, with the Independence Missouri Messiah Choir, with the ASU Choral Union in Mesa, and in Coeur d’Alene with the NIC Choir and a local choir.

Another passion was boating — on Hayden Lake and Lake Coeur d’Alene, and in San Diego on the Bay.

In his church life he was a member of the Community of Christ for 21 years and was an ordained Elder; in Florida, he was a member of the Community Congregational Church of Naples where he was a Stephen Minister; most recently he attended Lake City Church in Coeur d’Alene.

In his last month, Bob’s favorite treats were huckleberry shakes and ice cream soda.

Bob leaves behind his wife, June of 59 years; his son, Vance Ewald of Tampa, Fla.; his daughter, Lisa (Matthew) Aurora of Coeur d’Alene; grandchildren: Richard Lemieux of Spokane, Wash., and Shelby Lemieux of Hayden; great-grandchildren: Saianna Lemieux (6 years) and Sinatra Lemieux Munson (19 months); cousins: William Ralph Miner and Pat Neville Miner of Windsor, Colo., Jennifer Demers of Denver, Colo., and Andrea Sears of Raleigh, N.C., and their children.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at Lake City Church in Coeur d’Alene. A dessert reception will follow. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Bob’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
