Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — The Timberwolves won their 14th match in a row, rolling past the improving Bulldogs 25-9, 25-13, 25-18 in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

Ashley Kaufman had 11 kills and four aces for Lake City (23-1). Klaire Mitchell added 21 assists and two blocks, Kiki Cates four aces, Reilley Chapman 10 digs, Tanai Jenkins two blocks.

“We served aggressively again tonight,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “They struggled running their offense out of serve-receive. And we were locked in on defense. Reilley did a good job leading out of the back row, and with our quick transition, and Klaire running a quick tempo, Sandpoint struggled to get two blockers up.”

Grace Hicks finished with 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks for Sandpoint (15-8). Jeff Hurst is in the first year of his second stint as Bulldogs coach. His first time around, from 1993-2001, he coached Sandpoint to four state titles in nine seasons. So he’s seen some pretty good volleyball in this state.

“We just witnessed a legitimate volleyball situation,” Hurst said. “We didn’t play our best volleyball, compounded by that’s a great team. What are we going to do to beat a great team? You can’t roll over on yourself.”

Lake City plays host to University on Saturday.
