POST FALLS — A male was undergoing surgery at Kootenai Health late Thursday night after being shot by another male at a Post Falls apartment complex, according to police.

“It appears that there was a domestic dispute between two males,” Post Falls Police Capt. Greg McLean said.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul’s Ross Point East Apartments in the 3800 block of east Second Avenue.

McLean, who was not on scene, said he didn’t know the names of the shooter and victim.

“It appears one male showed up to pick up property, the other thought he was taking too much and a physical altercation broke out,” McLean said.

“The shooting suspect believed he was being abused to the point he believed his life was in jeopardy so he shot the victim from what we can tell, maybe five times.”

Detectives were interviewing the alleged shooting suspect at deadline.

“He is being cooperative,” McLean said.

McLean said the victim was alert at the hospital and was combative with officers when they arrived.

“Both of them have a (criminal) history,” McLean said.

According to Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, the man in the hospital was in critical condition.

No further details were released. An investigation continues.
