NOTICE FOR COMMENT USDA - Forest Service, Northern Region Idaho Panhandle National Forests Bonners Ferry Ranger District Boundary County, Idaho Opportunity to Object - Camp Robin Project Jeanne Higgins, Forest Supervisor of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests has prepared an environmental assessment (EA), a draft decision notice (DN) and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for the Camp Robin Project located on the Bonners Ferry Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. She has selected a modified Alternative 2 as described in the Camp Robin Project draft DN. The project area is about 42,000 acres and is located in the Camp Nine and Robinson Lake areas north and east of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The proposed activities are located on Federal lands within all or portions of: T65N, R1E, Sections 25, 26, 33-36; T65N, R2E, Sections 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 20-22, 26-31, 34, 35; T64N, R1E, Sections 3, 4, 8, 17, 20, 21, 28, 29, 32, 33; T63N, R1E, Sections 1,3,4,10,14, 15, 23-26, 36; T63N, R2E, Sections 17-20, 29-33, Boise Meridian. The modified Alternative 2 for the Camp Robin project includes vegetation management and road management activities. Vegetation management may occur on 5,366 acres, activities include: about 4,891 acres of commercial timber harvest, approximately 89 acres of precommercial thinning, and a 386 acre burn only unit. Regeneration harvest prescriptions would occur on approximately 3,173 acres and intermediate harvest prescriptions on about 1,718 acres. There would be post-harvest fuels reduction treatments and prescribed burning of approximately 5,277 acres. Road management activities include constructing about 13 miles of temporary roads, converting about 2 miles of old road beds to system roads, reconstructing just under 10 miles of road, maintaining over 54 miles of existing roads, and storing roughly 12 miles of roads or road segments after project implementation. Other road management activities include rock crushing in existing gravel pits, converting a segment of road to trail, and decommissioning approximately 2 miles of previously closed roads. Recreational improvements include: an addition of a 4 mile mountain bike trail, two trailhead improvements, dock repairs at Smith Lake and Brush Lake, and improvements to a restroom facility at Smith Lake.
