COEUR d’ALENE — Talon Twoteeth scored a team-high 15 points for Lakeside, which bounced back from a slow start to beat North Idaho Christian 64-50 in a nonleague game at Holy Family Catholic School on Thursday.

“It took us a bit to get going again,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “We had trouble getting shots to fall in the first four to five minutes, and then they started falling for us. Talon stepped up and hit some big shots for us and rebounded really well.”

Day Day Higgins scored 13 points for Lakeside (2-0), which travels to Garfield-Palouse on Saturday.

Cross Pilgrim scored 20 points for North Idaho Christian (1-1), which faces Christian Heritage on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic School.

SPOKANE — Kale Edwards scored 19 points and the Vikings pulled away in the second half to beat the Pirates in nonleague play, after leading by 3 at halftime.

Edwards scored eight in the first quarter, nine in the third for Coeur d’Alene (1-1).

“Kale was pretty good inside,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said. “He’s athletic, and he’s a hard guard. I thought we worked inside-out well.”

It was an inside job for the Vikings, as Carter Friesz added 11 points — including a 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer.

Ethan Kaesemeyer led Rogers (1-1) with 12 points.

Coeur d’Alene plays at Central Valley tonight at 7.

HARRISON FLATS — Senior Gage Maitland tossed in 28 points as the host Warriors opened their season by beating the Wildcat junior varsity.

“He got a lot of his points cutting off screens,” said his dad, Kootenai coach Mike Maitland, “and his teammates were hitting him on passes cutting down the lane.”

Triston Usdrowski added 17 points for Kootenai, and Jarrett Usdrowski added 10. Mike Maitland also had praise for junior Garrett Renner and sophomore Andrew Little, a “couple new kids who stepped up and played well.”

Justin Taylor hit four 3-pointers and led the Kellogg JV with 15 points.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again Wednesday in Kellogg.

SANDPOINT — Sophomore Brooke Jessen exited the game to a standing ovation in the third quarter thanks to her 25-point, 10-rebound double-double in the Tigers’ nonleague win over the Bulldogs at Les Rogers Court.

“[Jessen] is hard to stop,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “She’s a really skilled player and she’s got a lot of weapons to go to. Our guards did a good job finding her when she was open tonight.”

McKeeley Tonkin added 15 points and five assists for Timberlake (5-0), and Taryn Soumas had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

“I was really happy with our defense tonight,” Miller said. “I thought they were really aggressive and also disciplined.”

Izzo Edwards led Sandpoint (0-4) with 11 points.

Timberlake plays host to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

KENDRICK — Tara Allen scored 18 points and Tommia Pakootas added 15 points for the Knights in an overtime win over the Tigers.

“I was proud of the girls overall tonight,” said Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman, whose team lost to Kendrick 70-48 in the season opener on Nov. 15. “We had a lot of contributors and played a lot better than the last time we saw them.”

Lakeside led 27-20 at halftime, but fell behind after the third quarter 41-36 before battling back and then pulling away in the extra period.

Alyssa SiJohn scored four of her five points in overtime for Lakeside (1-2), which plays at Garfield-Palouse on Saturday.
