CRITTERS: Tale of 2 columnists

| November 30, 2018 12:00 AM

I’ve got to tell you… It’s A Brand New Day for me when I read Christian Ryan’s Critters of North Idaho column. Quite informative and enlightening especially to hear how the fisher, a close cousin of weasels, strategically outsmarts a porcupine by dancing circles around the porcupine before repeatedly lunging forward, striking the porcupine’s unprotected head. Then it rolls the porcupine over and eats from its belly. Strategic indeed! Now this was an enjoyable read.

In my opinion, I feel Christian Ryan’s column deserves to be on the front page of The Press and perhaps A Brand New Day should be limited to the 250 word count in the Opinion section. A fairy tale story about a hippopotamus running loose and seen in Lake Coeur d’Alene belongs in a children’s book perhaps? And who really wants to chat? Bringing Celine into the picture is a poor way of trying to appeal to the public, especially to all those who are allergic to cats. Is Celine a real cat or does Steve have a secret crush on Celine Dion?

Go ahead, make my day: It’s “Pick on Steve Cameron Day.” And next week we can “Pick on Me Day.”
