Leopold Joseph Jude Heinan

July 10, 1987 — Nov. 19, 2018

Leopold “Leo” Heinan, age 31, of Post Falls and Priest River, Idaho, died Monday night at his residence in a tragic accident. He leaves behind his parents, Anthony (“Tony”) and Jana Pritchard Heinanp; siblings, Sarah (Ryan) Grant, Andrew (Jayna) Heinan and Audrey Heinan (aka Sr. Mary Gertrude, O. Praem.); six beloved nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Leo was a devout parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he served as usher and security. He also served the public in various roles as well: a lifeguard at Hayden’s Triple Play, a pyrotechnician with Rocketman (notably designing and enacting the annual show at Grand Coulee Dam), a maintenance operator for Kootenai County Parks and Waterways (many of the new concrete docks were designed and built by him, setting his talented hands to many projects to make local parks beautiful, clean and inviting), and his humbly prized achievement — a brown belt in jiu jitsu at Iron Lion (and he was known for being unbeatable).

Well known for his selfless acts of kindness and spontaneous humor, his absolute devotion to his Faith and family, his love for children and nature, and his fierceness in standing up for what is right, Leo will be greatly missed; the Superhero of so many lives. A Gofundme account has been set up on Facebook to help the family with funeral costs, and a charity BJJ seminar has also been arranged by his brothers at Iron Lion for his family. Inquire at Iron Lion for details.

Mass of Christian Burial for Leo will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 773 N. 11th St., Coeur d’Alene. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, with rosary service at 3 p.m., all at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Arrangements are provided by Yates Funeral Homes. Online registry and condolences may be found at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
