Cardinals get defensive on the road
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Defense travels, and thankfully, it did for the North Idaho College men’s basketball team on Friday.
NIC scored 12 points off turnovers in the first half, then shot 23 of 36 in the second half from the field as the Cardinals rolled past Central Wyoming 102-69 in the Western Wyoming tournament on Friday.
“We were able to get up and down the floor and forced them into a lot of turnovers,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “We didn’t score the ball very well in the first 10 minutes. In that second 10 minutes (when NIC built a 43-22 halftime lead) we got a little hot and put some points on the board. Our defense looked good early on, which was big for us.”
Emmitt Taylor III scored 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from beyond the 3-point line and Jarod Greene had 17 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field for NIC (2-0), which faces tournament host Western Wyoming today at 4 p.m. PST.
“Jarod ran the floor really well and had a couple of dunks,” Symons said. “He was hitting a lot of jumpers and just played really well for us.”
Taylor Tidzump scored 16 points for Central Wyoming (2-5).
