Harvey ‘Dean’ Layson, 82

Oct. 13, 1936 — Nov. 7, 2018

Harvey “Dean” Layson (he preferred Dean) passed away Nov. 7, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Henry Earl Layson; mother, Bertha May Layson (Leighton); sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Layson; and brother, Harold Earl Layson.

Dean had four children from his first marriage: daughter, Cheryl Layson in California; son, Jim and wife, Lisa, of Post Falls, Idaho; son, Steve and wife, Missy, of Hauser, Idaho; daughter, Cathy Tarpley and husband, Justin, of Post Falls; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dean leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara Kay Layson; stepdaughters, Pam Beamis of Post Falls, Julie Neu and husband, Gary, of Moses Lake, Wash., Kim Gunderson and husband, Scott, of Marsing, Idaho; as well as step-grandson, Zack Neu, and great-granddaughters, Palyn and Piper Neu of Sagle, Idaho; and step-granddaughter, Kaylee Neu of Coeur d’Alene.

Dean spent some time in the Army as a medic, working in pediatrics. When Dean got out of the military he got a job with Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane, Wash., and was with them for 45 years.

Dean enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with Barbara. He took great pride in keeping the lawn looking its best in the summertime. They also attended bluegrass festivals, where he enjoyed the music and camaraderie and watching and listening to Barb sing and play guitar.
