Leroy Charles Hunt

Leroy Charles Hunt went to be with the Lord on Nov. 10, 2018, in Spokane Valley, Wash., at the age of 79. Leroy was born on Feb. 24, 1939, in Greenacres, Wash., to Charles Robert Hunt and Christine Mittlesteadt. Leroy is the oldest of seven children — with four brothers, Dan, John, Tim and Ted and two sisters, Ruthe and Liz. He grew up and spent his childhood in various locations including Montana, Oregon and Idaho, where he learned to fish and hunt, and learned the business of logging from his father.

After graduating Gaston High School, he attended Northwest Bible College and married Donnella Jean Hansen in 1965. In 1966, working for Noblecraft Industries, he served as youth pastor at Hillsboro Assembly of God. Later that year, he moved to Harlen, Ore., and served as pastor of Chapel of the Valley for three years. During this time they welcomed their son, Valdyn.

The family moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where Leroy was the assistant pastor at First Assembly of God and where they welcomed the arrival of their daughter, LeeElla. Leroy then served as pastor at Pinehurst Assembly of God followed by assistant and youth pastorship for Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Spokane, Wash. During this time, they welcomed their third child, David.

In 1974, Lee became head pastor at Aloha Christian Life Center in Aloha, Ore., where he served for the next 18 years. During this season he served as the Assemblies of God Presbyter for the Greater Portland area, Executive Presbyter for the Oregon District and on many of their state committees. They celebrated the arrival of Angela, their fourth child, during this time and made many lifelong friends and memories.

Following God’s call in 1992, he founded New Hope Christian Center in Spokane, where he served as senior pastor for 19 years. In June 2011, Leroy transitioned to assistant pastor, where he served until his death.

Leroy was accomplished in many sports and loved spending time outdoors, especially at the Oregon Coast. He was a devoted father and husband who lived for his Family and loved serving his Church. He will be greatly missed.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Donnella; his children, Valdyn, LeeElla, David and Angela; as well as 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Hunt; his mother, Christine Hunt; sister, Liz Cope; and granddaughter, Taylor Rakel Hunt.

A memorial service is scheduled for 5 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at New Hope Christian Center, 1108 N. Argonne Road, Spokane Valley. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Leroy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in c/o LeeElla Blauer, 5710 S. Corkery Road Ext Spokane, WA 99223.
