| November 15, 2018 12:00 AM

POST FALLS — The Idaho team of Convention of States, a national grassroots political movement, will hold a town hall meeting tonight at 6:30 at the Greyhound Park and Event Center, 1500 Riverbend Ave.

Discussion items include last week's mid-term elections, religious liberty and the Convention of States plans for the legislative session starting in January.

The event is free and open to the public.

Rep. Eric Redman, R-Athol, will be the emcee. Guest presenters will be Mark Meckler, president and co-founder of the Convention of States project, and Jenna Ellis, director of the Public Policy Center for the James Dobson Family Institute, a constitutional law attorney and author.

After five years of the movement’s existence, Idaho isn't among the 12 states that have passed a resolution calling for a Convention of States.

A Convention of States is called by state legislatures to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Those in favor of the resolution believe states must assume their constitutionally granted role to manage the federal government through an amendment process.

Article V of the Constitution allows such power.

For a Convention of States to become reality, 34 states must first pass a resolution calling for it.
