Hayden changes parking rules during snow

HAYDEN — With snowfall already in the books this month, the city of Hayden is asking residents to be prepared to move their vehicles off the roads whenever three or more inches of snow are on their way.

“Our goal is to best support the clearing of snow from our streets which helps ensure safe travel for those on our roads during winter weather,” said public works director Alan Soderling.

When snow is forecasted, city crews spray an anti-icing agent onto designated locations such as intersections, then when three or more inches of snow have accumulated the snowplows begin their routes. “Equipment operators work the city snow routes based on the pre-determined priorities,” said Soderling.

In a snow event when three or more inches of snow are forecasted to accumulate, property owners should remove all vehicles from the street, said Soderling. “Keeping our streets clear of parked vehicles helps our snow plow operators avoid accidents and be more effective and safe,” he said. Vehicles that are not removed may be ticketed or towed. In addition, recreational vehicles, boats, trailers and basketball hoops should be moved off city streets. 

Soderling also reminded residents to keep sidewalks and mailboxes clear of snow and ice, and to check on elderly or shut-in residents to see if assistance is needed.

“The city of Hayden is fortunate to have a plow team that knows Hayden well and does a great job keeping our streets clear of snow and ice. With a little planning and preparation we can all have a safer winter,” he said.
