The Coeur Group distributed $9,500 in grant dollars Monday to 19 local schools in the Coeur d’Alene and Lakeland Joint school districts.

The $500-on-the-spot grants were distributed during an idea-sharing workshop hosted by Coeur Group to discuss ensuring that basic necessities such as clothing and toiletries are available to students who need them.

The workshop accompanies the Coeur Group Locker Program, which since 2006 has designed, produced and installed custom-made cabinetry and shelving in local schools.

“The event was generously hosted at The Coeur d’Alene Resort and local businesses donated funds to provide breakfast to attendees,” said a news release.

Participants communicated the need for winter clothing as the weather starts to turn. They also brought to light laundry services as an often-overlooked challenge for providing essentials to students.

Many shared experiences highlighted the significant impact clean and new clothes can have on students’ learning, behavior, and self-confidence.

Since 2004, The Coeur Group, a service club of young professionals, has worked to make an impact in the North Idaho community through a variety of special projects. The group’s more than 50 members have collectively reported over 1,000 hours of community service work in 2018 alone.
