NIC Booster Club Luncheon to honor volleyball
The North Idaho College Athletics Department will honor the NIC volleyball team at the NIC Booster Club Luncheon at noon today, Nov. 13, at Seasons of Coeur d’Alene Restaurant, 209 E. Lakeside Ave.
NIC’s volleyball team qualified for the NWAC playoffs after winning their final league match against Treasure Valley CC on Sunday. The two-time defending NWAC East Region champions will begin the NWAC volleyball championship tournament Thursday at the Tacoma Convention Center. All games can be viewed on the NWAC website, and a link to the Cardinal games can be obtained from the NIC website at www.nic.edu/athletics.
The NIC winter head coaches will also speak and provide a preview of the upcoming home openers for wrestling (7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, against Clackamas CC) and men’s basketball opens (7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, vs. Peninsula College). A special NIC Booster Club lunch menu will be provided.

EWU’s Webster, Alcobendas earn Big Sky honors
OGDEN, Utah — Eastern Washington cornerback Nzuzi Webster and kicker Roldan Alcobendas were honored as Big Sky Conference Players of the Week for their roles in the Eagles’ key victory over visiting UC Davis last weekend
Webster registered a 45-yard pick-six to begin the second half, giving Eastern Washington a 28-17 advantage en route to a 59-20 win. The cornerback added three tackles and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles hand UC Davis its first league loss of the season. Webster and the Eagle defense held the Aggies to its lowest point total in league play this year.
Alcobendas scored 11 points in the win over UC Davis. He kicked a 24-yard field goal to improve to 13-for-13 on the season. Alcobendas also converted all eight of his extra points and punted five times for an average of 39.8. Four of Alcobendas punts were downed inside the UCD 20-yard line and three inside the 10 as the Aggies were held to an average field position of their own 15-yard line.
Also honored by the Big Sky were two Cal Poly players, fullback Joe Prothero and defensive back Dominic Frasch, who helped the host Mustangs upend visiting Idaho State.
