Little to lead Idaho Prop 1: No Prop 2: Yes

A big blue upset in the governor’s race never materialized, with Republican Brad Little easily defeating Paulette Jordan in a contest that many media outlets were calling by 9 p.m. Tuesday.

As of 11 p.m., Little, the state’s lieutenant governor, held a hefty 212,121-140,519 lead over his opponent, a former state representative and member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. That was with 524 of 959 Idaho precincts reporting.

A pair of propositions both looked conclusive by the newspaper’s 11 p.m. deadline. At that point, Prop. 1 - historical horse racing - was losing, 193,263-165,303. Prop. 2, which would expand Medicaid beginning in 2020, was passing by a wide margin, 222,111-136,482.

In the race to replace U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador in District 1, Republican Russ Fulcher had a big lead on Democratic challenger Cristina McNeil. As of 11 p.m., Fulcher led 86,481-42,406.

In other statewide races of note, as of 11 p.m.:

•LT. GOVERNOR: Republican Janice McGeachin led challenger Kristin Collum 207,062-148,301.

- SECRETARY OF STATE: Incumbent Republican Lawerence Denney led Democrat Jill Humble 215,771-136,192.

- ATTORNEY GENERAL: Republican Lawrence Wasden will retain his office. He was leading Democrat Bruce Bistline 225,609-123,572.

- SCHOOLS’ SUPERINTENDENT: Democratic challenger Cindy Wilson was embroiled in the tightest statewide race, squaring off against the Republican incumbent, Sherri Ybarra. As of 11 p.m., with 524 of 959 precincts reporting, Wilson led Ybarra, 180,882-173,090.
