Matthew John Hanner, 35

Matthew John Hanner, 35 years old, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018. Our family and the community have truly lost a wonderful and beautiful human being.

Matthew came to us on a very busy hospital evening on Jan. 17, 1983. Right from the start, we knew we had received a gift from God when he slept through the first night home from the hospital.

Matthew graduated from the Lakeland School District. He started kindergarten at John Brown Elementary and graduated from Lakeland High School in 2001. During his school days, he played numerous sports. He played Park and Rec. sports in his elementary years. Matthew made the all-star teams in Little League. He played football and baseball in both junior and senior high school. He was on the varsity football team that went to state in 2000, placing second. He made first-team defense in the Intermountain Conference League. His jersey number was No. 52.

Matthew was employed in the building lumber industries for all of his work-life. He also was the head of security at the Beacon Pub on Sherman Avenue. He was the ray of sunshine that sat at the front door with the very colorful sayings on his T-shirts. Some his mom wasn’t too fond of, if you know what I mean.

He leaves behind his parents, Louie and Olivia Hanner; brother David; sister-in-law Heather; and nephews Brody, Cameron and Myles Hanner. He also leaves behind three fur-sisters, Princess Ally, Bonnie Blue and Mia Buttercup. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Those who were close to Matthew knew he was an avid Subaru car guy and an excellent cook. We will miss his great spaghetti dishes, his thick and hearty chicken noodle soup, his chicken enchiladas and his awesome pasta salads.

Matthew will be sorely missed by many. He was truly a big teddy bear with a big heart. He was a wonderful son and a loyal friend to many. We will miss his wonderful smile and bear hugs.

Matthew you left us too soon and we look forward to seeing you again. I hope all that meet you at heaven’s gate have their IDs in hand, or they won’t be getting into heaven.

Please come join us in celebrating Matthew’s life at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at Bell Tower Funeral Home, 33987 E. Jenalan Ave., Post Falls, Idaho.
