RATHDRUM — Video surveillance led to the arrest on Thursday afternoon of a robbery suspect who allegedly targeted a Rathdrum gas station on Monday.

Police Chief Tomi McLean said it was the first robbery in Rathdrum since she became chief more than two years ago.

Abram J. Caron, 25, was located by police at a home in the 8900 block of West Meadow Brooke Circle in Rathdrum at 12:50 p.m. and arrested without incident.

Caron was being held Friday at the Kootenai County Jail on robbery and burglary charges, with a $100,000 bond on each. He is the lone suspect in the case.

"The detective obtained video surveillance of the car he was driving," McLean said.

"From that, we were able to narrow it down to who it may be. With video surveillance, it can be hard to get away with anything. It can really help us out with brazen crimes."

Caron is not the owner of the car that was spotted in the video, McLean said.

Rathdrum officers responded to the Rathdrum Jiffy Stop, 15370 N. Highway 41, at 7:23 p.m. Monday after a male suspect approached an employee and demanded cash. After taking the money, the man fled.

The employee told police that no weapon was seen during the alleged robbery. The employee was not injured.

The suspect wore a white hooded sweatshirt with the hood covering most of his face.

The multi-agency North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force assisted Rathdrum Police in the case.
