Zags coast in exhibition

SPOKANE — Rui Hachimura scored 23 points and six Gonzaga players reached double figures in a 108-69 trouncing of NCAA Division II Central Washington in an exhibition game Thursday night before a sellout crowd of 6,000 at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Brandon Clarke, a San Jose State transfer seeing his first action as a Zag, added 18 points and 11 rebounds. Zach Norvell Jr. scored 14 points, Josh Perkins 12 and Corey Kispert and Jeremy Jones 10 each for Gonzaga, which shot 54.7 percent (35 of 64) from the field, including 45 percent (9 of 20) from 3-point range. CWU shot 33.8 percent (25 of 74) from the field.

The Zags outrebounded Central 57-38.

Gonzaga led 18-3 after four minutes, and was up 49-23 at halftime. Hachimura had 14 points, Clarke 12 at the half.

Gonzaga’s biggest lead was 40 with 8:37 left.

It was Gonzaga’s first game without junior forward Killian Tillie, expected to miss eight weeks following surgery to repair a stress fracture in his ankle.

Jackson Price led Central Washington with 12 points.

Gonzaga opens the regular season at home Tuesday vs. Idaho State.
