SWAT team responds to attempted strangulation report
POST FALLS — A 44-year-old Post Falls man was arrested Wednesday night for felony domestic battery in the presence of a child, attempted strangulation and obstructing.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the 4600 block of east Woodland Drive near Post Falls around 8:30 p.m. due to a 911 call of someone screaming in the background.
Upon arrival, deputies contacted a female who appeared to be the victim of domestic violence.
"At this time we will not be releasing any specific information regarding the victim's injuries," KCSO Public Information Officer Dennis Stinebaugh said.
The suspect, William P. Plummer, would not respond to requests to surrender and appeared to be barricading himself inside the home, according to the KSCO.
Due to the seriousness of the alleged offense and Plummer refusing to contact deputies on scene, the KCSO deployed the Kootenai County multi-agency SWAT team.
Once on scene, SWAT members quickly ensured the safety of the other nearby residents and attempted to communicate with Plummer.
Plummer was arrested about two and a half hours after deputies arrived.
"The Sheriff’s Office started its attempts at communicating with Plummer around 8:45 p.m. and he was taken into custody at 11:25 p.m.," Stinebaugh said.
Stinebaugh said two children were present during the alleged incident.
Stinebaugh said it had not been determined as of Thursday afternoon whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
During his first appearance on Thursday, Plummer's bond was set at $30,000 for each charge, totaling $90,000.
