Louise Ann ‘Lou Ann’ (Curtis) Boehme, 73

Feb. 20, 1945 – May 25, 2018

Lou Ann Boehme, age 73, went to be home with her Lord and Savior on May 25, 2018, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side.

Born Feb. 20, 1945, in Canaan, Conn., to Hugh D. Curtis and Lulia S. Curtis, she was raised on dairy farms and attended local schools in Connecticut. She graduated in 1965 from Bay Path Junior College, in Longmeadow, Mass., as a medical secretary.

She married John R. Boehme and they lived for several years in Charleston, S.C., while John served in the Naval Submarine Service. Lou Ann worked as a surgery clerk at hospitals in South Carolina, and later, in California. She was a substitute school teacher in the Charleston area. They also spent several years living in northern California.

For many years the family enjoyed trips together throughout the U.S. and Canada. They were brought to the Pacific Northwest when they moved to Port Orchard, Wash., in 1980. Lou Ann operated a home daycare and she and John provided loving care as foster parents for two teenage girls. The family relocated to Hayden, Idaho, a few years later, and she and John have continued to reside in the area.

For 10 years, Lou Ann worked as a nursery and preschool teacher at Stepping Stones Learning Center, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, forming many close relationships.

She loved studying God’s word and participated in several Bible studies. She was involved as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship, a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School programs and served at community kitchens.

Her faith in Christ was evident to all; and to know her was to know you were loved.

Her favorite times were spent participating in activities with her children and grandchildren.

She loved to travel, camp, take long nature walks, bird-watch, visit Amish communities and do crossword puzzles and cross stitch.

Her life was richly blessed by family. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John R. Boehme; her children, Greg Boehme, Cheryl Moore and Michelle Gallegos, and their spouses, whom she treated as sons, Jim Moore and Rob Gallegos; and her precious grandchildren, who were her absolute joy: Rachel, Carissa, Jordan, Abreham and Hana Gallegos, Logan Boehme and “grafted in grandson,” Eduardo Duarte. She is also survived by her brother, Hugh Curtis and his family in Connecticut; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Barbara Boehme and their sons; and step brother, John Berti.

Lou Ann was a faithful blood platelet donor and would encourage others to give the gift of life.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at North Country Chapel, 2281 W. Seltice Way, Post Falls, Idaho. Immediately following will be a potluck reception and Lou Ann’s favorite treat, ice cream! She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Memorials may be sent to North Country Chapel, 2281 W. Seltice Way, Post Falls, ID 83854, or Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28607. Please view and sign Lou Ann’s online guestbook at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
