Berns, Elliott join Orchard Ridge board

Tony Berns and Doug Elliott were recently elected to the board of directors of The Village at Orchard Ridge, formerly Coeur d’Alene Homes and Heritage Place.

Berns, executive director of ignitecda, was born and raised in the Cincinnati area, moved to Idaho in the late 1970s, and graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Idaho.

Prior to joining ignitecda, the city of Coeur d’Alene’s urban renewal agency, Berns worked for 17 years in the industrial forest products business sector while living in Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Texas, Connecticut and Maine.

Elliott is the general manager and CEO of Kootenai Electric Cooperative. He and wife Cindy have lived in North Idaho since 2009, coming from Savannah, Ga., where Elliott worked for another electric cooperative as vice president of engineering and operations. Elliott serves on the boards of several power supply organizations Kootenai Electric is affiliated with, and he is active with the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re pleased to have Tony and Doug on our Board,” announced Ann Johnson, executive director of Orchard Ridge. “We are in the midst of a long-range plan for growing our campus and these two new members will prove to be tremendous assets as we continue to move forward. We’re excited to have them join us.”

Since 1921, Orchard Ridge has served North Idaho by providing a faith-based loving home for older adults. Orchard Ridge offers a high level assisted living/memory care facility (The Garden) as well as independent living (The Grove). For over 97 years, Orchard Ridge has been governed by 20 sponsoring churches in our area, the only nonprofit facility of its kind in the Inland Northwest.

Bruns receives Master Wedding Planner designation

Robyn Bruns — owner of Red Letter Event Planning, a boutique wedding and event planning company in Coeur d’Alene — recently received the designation of Master Wedding Planner from the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC). She is the first Idaho resident to receive such a designation. The designation is awarded based on a detailed portfolio and presentation that showcases a master level of expertise in the wedding industry to a jury of peers. Bruns received the designation at the Association of Bridal Consultants National Conference in Rivera Maya, Mexico.

There are only 75 professionals with the designation of Master Wedding Planner worldwide. In addition to this designation, Bruns is the managing editor of Wedding Planner Magazine, a worldwide magazine for the professional wedding planner and designer and the Association of Bridal Consultants manager for the Northwest states of Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska.

NCCE announces new director of professional learning

Shannon Davenport will take over July 1 as the director of professional learning for the Northwest Council for Computer Education (NCCE).

Davenport, who began her career in education in 1996 as a third grade teacher, is now the instructional technology coach for the Clarksville Montgomery County School System in Tennessee.

Davenport joined NCCE as a professional learning specialist in 2014 and helped build the curriculum for a three-year Technology Integration to Improve Teaching and Learning grant from the U.S. Department of Education in the U.S. Virgin Islands. She has been a featured speaker at the NCCE annual conference as well as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, has been honored as both the Making It Happen recipient from ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and as a Distinguished Educator in Montgomery County Schools. Most recently, she was selected to attend the prestigious Microsoft E2 Forum in Singapore.

In her new role, Davenport will continue to work with 50-plus NCCE professional learning specialists, grow the partnerships NCCE has developed with business partners and nonprofits, and provide opportunities for NCCE members both in the U.S. and around the globe.

NCCE is a nonprofit that specializes in professional learning for K-12 educators, administrators, and support staff. Shaw joins HMH

HMH Engineering announced the addition of Justin Shaw, P.E. as a project manager on the HMH team.

Shaw is a professional engineer with nearly a decade of civil engineering experience. He has worked on numerous H&H, utility, transportation and site development projects for public and private sector clients including the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Municipality of Anchorage, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, and Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.

HMH Engineering is a North Idaho-owned company providing engineering and consulting services in the fields of land and site development, water and sewer engineering, material testing, GIS and surveying, and transportation engineering.
