Jaron Voeller scored both goals for the Sting, assisted by Trenton Anderson and Boston Spear. Bryant Donovan earned the shutout in goal.

Idaho Inferno 03 Johnson boys: The Inferno defeated the Spokane Shadow Elite Sonko 8-3. Matt McLeod hat a hat trick for the Inferno, Lance Gilmor scored twice and Alex Moate, Loko Koller and Caleb Calkins each scored once. The Puget Sound Premier League Girls Washington Cup kicked off this past weekend with two area Sting Timbers FC girls teams competing in the Gold Division for a berth to U.S. Club Regionals.

The Sting Timbers FC girls 03 and 00/01 teams both opened in the qualification round, with rosters depleted with spring break plans on both teams. The 03G were up to the challenge at the Starfire Complex in Renton, Wash., but were then hit with a few injuries.

The short-handed 00/01 girls were met early Saturday morning in Ravensdale, Wash., with a field covered in 2-3 inches of snow. With the boundary lines shoveled and the sun eventually melting one side of the field, the game finished with a 4-0 victory. Goals were scored by Lexi Medina, Jordan Roth, Erika Skinlov and Julianna Stith.

With the snow melted, the second Saturday foe was local side Spokane Foxes. The Sting got on the board after Maddie Smith was fouled in the penalty area, and Chloe Teets slammed home the ensuing penalty kick. Erika Skinlov sealed the 2-0 victory with a late goal.

Lilly Foster posted both shutouts in goal.

The Sting lost its third game 1-0, but had reached its objective of advancing from the group stage.

The Sting will return to Starfire April 7 for a semifinal game.
