SAFETY: Try this instead

| March 23, 2018 1:00 AM

You know Idaho is becoming Californicated when you read sappy letters like the one sent by Martha Bost entitled “Who Are The Adults.” However, the real problem here is more “Fake News,” like all the coverage from the anti-firearms media, concerning the insignificant threat of school shootings. Here is the data I have been able to find:

Since the media’s most important date, the shootings at Columbine (I will call it AC for After Columbine), there have been fewer than 200 deaths from school shootings. During that same 19 years AC, there have been more than a half million deaths from car accidents. So, anyone who goes to school being afraid is just ignorant, and should be treated as such.

However, there is a significant threat at every high school that I would like to address. It is not inside the schools, but out in the parking lot. It is teenage drivers armed with cars. Just ask any insurance agent how real THAT threat is.

So, instead of raising the age of purchasing a rifle, I suggest we raise the driving age to 21. That would be a significant help to public safety, and after all, no teenager NEEDS to have a driver’s license. In addition, after hearing some of these air-headed teenagers spout off on TV, I suggest we also raise the voting age. I suggest 51.
