PUPPY: A happy ending

| March 23, 2018 1:00 AM

We adopted Bodhi last year from the Kootenai Humane Society puppy program. Guests were in town and Bodhi took a fall, breaking his leg. We rushed to the vet. X-rays showed he had broken his growth plate β€” the worst break an animal can have. Our choice: Amputation or put him to sleep.

Surgery was expensive and no vets close by to do it immediately because it was Memorial Day weekend. Dr. Andrew Nicholson of Prairie Animal Hospital came forward. He said he wanted to give it a try; either it will work or we will amputate. It’s a risk but Bodhi was worth it.

Bodhi wore a cast for three and a half months. With some at-home physical therapy and family love, Bodhi today runs, jumps and is totally normal. Dr. Nicholson is a super vet and should wear a cape. Thank you from Mike, Amanda, Lucy, Colin and Paxton.
