A bit of this, that and the other
Apologies.
So much news keeps whizzing along, my emails have piled up without response.
Right from the beginning, we’ve promised to keep in touch, so let’s make a dent in all that correspondence.
But before we get rolling, here’s a quick related topic: Don’t forget you can comment or chat on Facebook and Twitter. The links are at the bottom of this column.
And hey, my friend Haylie Thompson — you’ve made her kind of a star in this space — finally is back on Facebook.
Welcome back, pal.

Now then, to the mail …
For starters, I was shocked at how many people wrote to say something about the evergreen star, Jennifer Aniston.
We only mentioned her on the fringes of one item (comparing her to a cockroach, no less), yet I’ve seen at least a dozen emails either swooning over Jen’s life and loves — or asking about her latest adventures.
Sorry, and don’t dump me over this, but …
Jen and I don’t chat that often.

Two more related items popped up in all the mail: First, North Idaho folk apparently DO buy those magazines at the grocery check-out counters; and second, it seems we are becoming a Netflix neighborhood.
I was blown away by emails with questions about a Netflix series, “The Crown,” a long-running (and well done) docu-drama about the life and trials of Queen Elizabeth II — starting when she was a girl.
I wouldn’t have thought people in this area cared much about either Aniston or the British monarchy.
What can I say, except …
Please don’t tell me you’re a fan of the Kardarshians!
NOW LET’S do a quick fly-by of some other issues you’ve referenced in your emails …
Our readers seem to agree that adding some additional victims’ rights to the Idaho Constitution would have been a good idea. They’d like to see the Legislature get it done next session.
The prevailing sentiment you’d find in my inbox was: “Why not?”

The column about the Caddyshack saloon (and indoor virtual golf in general) generated plenty of feedback from players who are praying that this start of spring means hitting the links outdoors.
The Post Falls plains can have a downside — wind comes to mind — but that’s also the area likely to dry out first.
Call the various clubhouses to find out what courses are open around the county, and when some others will let you tee it up.
Maybe start with The Links on Chase Road, which drains well and has been open for about a week now (208-777-7611).
Hint: The fewer trees on any course, the sooner it’ll be clear of snow and mud.

Finally for today, I don’t really have a dog in this fight, but it’s worth touching on the emotional battle over county code enforcement.
Sure, I get it that we’re an independent bunch in North Idaho, and generally bristle at regulations.
Agreed all the way, with one caveat.
That tragic bridge collapse in Miami should remind us: Whatever we do about codes, the public has to be protected.
Other than regarding the safety of others, though, the county should be invisible as possible.
Meanwhile …
We’ll get to more emails next week.
Fair enough?
