Vandal men’s

basketball

adds Minnesota transfer

Idaho men’s basketball got even better heading into the 2018-19 season, with RayQuawndis Mitchell signing his letter of intent on Wednesday.

“We are really excited to add RayQuawndis to our program,” said head coach Don Verlin. “We saw him play AAU in April and immediately began working to place him in a prep school with the hopes of signing him in the 2019 class. When we had a scholarship open up a few weeks ago, we arranged for him to come on a visit and he committed to us while he was here.

“Ray is a late bloomer who is still just 17 years old. He has shown unbelievable improvement in the past year. As a junior, he was a part-time player on the varsity team, but kept working and getting better and put up big numbers as a senior.”

A 6-4, 180 lbs., guard, Mitchell will push the rest of the guard class with his hard-working attitude and perseverance. He averaged 22.1 points per game as a senior at Blaine High School, while also grabbing nearly 10 boards per contest and dishing out 6.7 assists a night, to earn All-Conference accolades.
