Civil Air Patrol helps search for Hayden man

Personnel, aircraft and vehicles from Idaho and Washington units of the Civil Air Patrol are assisting in the multi-agency search for Lyle O. Anderson, 86 of Hayden. Anderson has been missing since Thursday June 7, according to family members.

Civil Air Patrol aircraft have already flown ten sorties with two aircraft (each sortie includes a mission pilot, mission observer and mission scanner as aircrews) totaling over 20 hours. Twenty-six members from multiple units have participated so far.

“Searching is very challenging for our crews based on the ruggedness of the terrain and the high density of tree cover in the search area,” said Captain Randy McLain, Civil Air Patrol.

It is likely that Anderson, who has some medical concerns, went for a drive into the back country, with his dog, as this is one of his favorite activities, said the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

The dog is a Jack Russell terrier named Kiera. Anderson likes to frequent the area of the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River, including the Horse Haven area, however, the Sheriff’s Office said there is no information indicating he might be in this area rather than elsewhere.

Anderson is believed to be driving his dark gray 2014 Jeep Patriot SUV, bearing Idaho license plate K563230.

He is described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes. There is no information available as to what he is wearing.
