Cancer and Community Charities, locally known as the 3Cs, is making some changes to be more accessible to a younger demographic.

The next general meeting will be held at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday evening in the Coeur d'Alene Elks Club with a dinner at 5:30 p.m. The monthly meetings are normally held around the noon hour, but 3Cs members hope the later time will be more convenient for moms and working women.

"We’ve had so many requests,” 3Cs president Barbara Newland said Thursday. "We thought we’d try an evening meeting and see how this is going to go."

The group also held its annual spring fashion show in the evening with the same goal in mind.

“We’re just trying to get the young people to come," Newland said.

3Cs is a nonprofit organization of local women who raise funds to help support charities and causes in Kootenai County. Women of all walks of life are welcome to join the many 3Cs activity groups: garden club, Coeur d'Aleers (singing), golf, bowling, Funables (tours and adventures), knitting and stitching, bicycling, book club and more.

"If you’re new in the area, this is a great way to meet people, and this is a great group of women. They’re all outgoing, fun-loving and hard-working,” Newland said. "If you’ve been in the community for a long time and you want to know a little bit more about what is going on in your community, this is also a great way because of the charities we give the money to."

The 3Cs hosts several events per year, including the Appreciation Lunch, when collected funds are distributed to selected recipients. The 2018 Appreciation Lunch is planned for Aug. 10.

"It’s fun. It’s hard work, but a lot of time it’s just plain fun," Newland said. "You get together with these ladies and, like putting together the fashion show, it’s just plain fun.”

The featured speaker for Wednesday's meeting is Sheila Wayman of Bag and Boob Babes, a cancer awareness organization that makes and donates comfort products to breast cancer patients.

A light pasta meal will be available for $8. Newland said attendees will also have opportunities to win prizes.

The Elks Club is located at 1170 Prairie Ave. in Coeur d'Alene.
