Grant H. Fischer, 28

Grant H. Fischer, 28, tragically lost his life on May 27, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Feb. 18, 1990, and grew up in Coeur d’Alene, earning his GED in 2009. He worked various automotive service, construction and traffic control jobs throughout his adult life, most recently for Traffic Corp. and Everett Concrete.

Grant had an amazing group of friends, with whom he enjoyed car rallies, camping and bonfires. He had a passion for trucks and Hondas, and loved to engineer, design and build speaker systems for his vehicles and those of his friends. He had a heart for helping others, and we continue to discover how many people he touched. He would take his truck out during winter snow storms and tow people out of the ditch, day or night, usually refusing any payment for the service.

Last September he organized a water collection “fundraiser” for firefighters at the fire camps in Montana, California, and Washington, and was featured on KHQ news and in the Coeur d’Alene Press. He and his friends collected literally thousands of cases of water, as well as toiletries, food and supplies for firefighters in the fire camps. As these were being delivered in mid-September, some rains and snows came, thankfully quenching some of the fires. The remaining supplies were distributed by Grant and his friends and family to local fire stations, the United Way of North Idaho, Newby-ginnings of North Idaho, Post Falls Senior Center and the Union Gospel Mission.

Grant loved music, car stereos, dirt-biking, trucks, Hondas, car rallies and the outdoors. He had an incredible eye for photography as well, taking beautiful shots everywhere he went of his cars, trucks and the beauty of the Northwest.

Survivors include his brother, Travis, his wife, Sarah and their sons, Ryan and Garrett of Renton, Wash.; his brother, Adam and his wife, Mary Margaret “Meg” Flannigan and their son, Huck of Melville, Long Island, N.Y.; his parents, Scott and Susie of Coeur d’Alene; grandparents, John and Bertie Hart of Coeur d’Alene, and Ray Fischer of Hayden, Idaho; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Other survivors are his girlfriend, Chelcie Martin, and his wonderful friends who conducted an impromptu candlelight vigil honoring Grant at Higgens Point on May 28, 2018, attended by approximately 150 people.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Lake City Community Church, with a reception following at the church. Burial will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in care of the arrangements.

Charitable donations are requested in memory of Grant to the Suicide Action Prevention Network (SPAN), or the First Presbyterian Church at 521 Lakeside Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
