COEUR d’ALENE — A Newport man has been charged with multiple offenses after an Interstate 90 crash that sent himself and two others, including a Coeur d'Alene woman, to the hospital and blocked traffic for hours on Friday.

Idaho State Police reported on social media late Saturday afternoon that Ian M. Bolstad, 24, has been charged with felony aggravated DUI, obstructing and resisting police and open container of alcohol.

ISP reported that an injury crash occurred on I-90 eastbound at milepost 11 just outside Coeur d'Alene at 3:36 p.m. Friday. A blue 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup driven by Bolstad rear-ended a blue 2008 Subaru Outback driven by Ellen F. Brown, 57, of Coeur d'Alene, police reported. Brown was pushed into the closed section of the construction zone and struck a large post of an overhead traffic sign.

The Subaru came to rest on top of the concrete jersey barrier. Bolstad's pickup came to rest a short distance ahead in the eastbound lanes of I-90. I-90 was blocked and down to one lane for approximately three hours.

Bolstad, Brown and the passenger in Brown's vehicle, Joelle E. Tanguay, 33, of Tumwater, Wash., were transported to Kootenai Health by ambulance. Brown was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. All occupants were wearing seatbelts, police reported.

Just prior to 3:30 p.m., a hit-and-run crash occurred on I-90 in Spokane Valley involving a blue Toyota Tundra. Immediately afterward, ISP received numerous calls reporting erratic and reckless driving. The injury crash occurred while ISP was attempting to locate the Tundra.

ISP said more charges are likely to be added against Bolstad as the investigation continues.
