AMERICANS: This is US

The letter “damning Democrats” saddened me. The anger, accusations and veiled threats of the writer against democratic Americans is not who we are.

We are the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. One nation, under God with liberty and justice for all.

I submit that Americans are a kind, empathetic people at our core. When Americans are in trouble, we help regardless of political affiliation or the color of skin.

When families across the country lose their homes in disasters we volunteer and send assistance without asking about politics.

When towns are flooding white, black, brown, citizens & immigrants risk their own lives to save each other.

We contribute to GO FUND ME, we pray for other’s losses, we demand fairness.

We instinctively help. It’s who we are.

Why are we attacking each other?

The majority of Americans want the same things:

We recognize the contributions of our immigrant neighbors but we know we cannot sustain unchecked immigration. We want reasonable comprehensive immigration reform.

We want to know that our children and family are safe when they attend school, concerts, movies and malls. The majority support smart gun regulations.

We want access to health care without draining our savings, going broke or losing our homes.

We want clean drinking water, clean air, clean oceans full of fish, and public lands.

Seniors want their Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. We all want education, fair wages, acceptance.

We are ONE Nation, more similar than different.

We are not your enemy.
