Lums capture 'A' district title

SANDPOINT — Trent Elstad and Quinn Conces each delivered two-run singles as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the North Idaho Lakers of Sandpoint 10-1 in the championship game of the class A Area A (district) tournament Sunday at War Memorial Field.

Coeur d’Alene (35-14) advances to state, which begins Aug. 1 at Harris Field in Lewiston. As the host team for state, the Lewis-Clark Cubs received the other berth from Area A.

North Idaho finished 15-9.

Elstad’s hit came in a six-run first inning for Coeur d’Alene. Conces came through in a four-run fourth for the Lums.

Alex Karns earned the win, scattering seven hits, striking out four and walking two in 6 2/3 innings.

Sandpoint pitchers walked 11 and hit three.
